Day 1:Cuzco-Llulluchapampa
Drive through the Sacred Valley of the Incas to the trailhead at Km. 82 of the Machu Picchu trekking route. After getting acquainted with the trail crew, departure crossing a footbridge to hike a gentle two hours down the Urubamba canyon, and then visit of imposing sculpted Inca farming terraces and the settlement of Llaqtapata on the banks of the Cusichaca side river. Hike a short way up the Cusichaca valley to Huayllabamba, the last inhabited village on the trail. Overnight.
Day 2:Llulluchapampa-Sayacmarca
After breakfast hike trough the steep-sided Llullucha valley past a rushing stream and through native polylepis woodland. After crossing the rim of a small plateau, experience the Puna, the treeless grasslands of the high Andes. The trail then ascends to the first and highest pass, Warmiwañusca (4,200m/13,776ft). Experience spectacular views of the trail ahead to the second pass, and look back to the impressiv snowpeaks and valleys of the Huayanay massif.
After descending to the forested Pacaymayo valley, ascend on an Inca stairway to the Inca site of Runkuracay and the the second pass. The landscape opens onto spectacular new views to the snowpeaks of the Pumasillo range. Descend to the ruins of Sayacmarca (Inaccessible Town), an intricate labyrinth of houses, plazas and water channels, perched precariously on a rocky spur overlooking the Aobamba valley. Descend to the camp for the second night.
Day 3:Sayacmarca-Wiñay Wayna
The Inca trail, now a massive structure of granite paving stones, continues along the steep upper fringes of the cloud forest with its colorful orchids, bromeliads, mosses and ferns. At the third pass pinnacles topped with Inca viewing platforms overlook the archaeological complex of Phuyupatamarca (Cloud-level Town).The trek continues until Wiñay Wayna visiting the archaeological site and resting in the camp.
Day 4:Wiñay Wayna – Machu Picchu – Cuzco
Early morning hike through the lush cloud forest with giant ferns and broad-leaf vegetation to the stone threshold of Intipunku (Sun Gate). Experience the spectacular morning view of the magical city of Machu Picchu.
Guided tour of the highlights of Machu Picchu. In the early afternoon, you take bus to the small town of Aguas Calientes and from there return by train to Cusco. Transfer to the airport.
